Rice Pej (Konkan Rice Porridge)

A comforting and simple coastal dish — rice cooked until soft and soupy, eaten plain or with accompaniments like pickle, chutney, or dry fish.

Ingredients (Serves 3–4)
½ cup raw rice (preferably boiled rice/ukda chawal)
3–4 cups water
Salt to taste
Method
Wash rice thoroughly and place in a deep pot.
Add water and bring to a boil.
Lower flame and simmer until rice grains are soft and start breaking.
Add salt to taste.
Serve hot or warm.
Pro Tips
For richer taste, cook in a clay pot.
Add a spoon of ghee before serving for extra aroma.
Serving Suggestion
Enjoy with mango pickle, dry shrimp chutney, or fried fish on the side.
