A coastal delicacy — fresh crabs cooked in a thick, aromatic Malwani-style masala.

Ingredients (Serves 4)
6–8 medium crabs, cleaned and cracked
2 medium onions, chopped
1 cup grated coconut
2 tbsp Malwani masala powder
1 tsp turmeric powder
4–5 dried red chilies
2 tsp coriander seeds
1 tsp cumin seeds
2 tbsp oil
Salt to taste
Fresh coriander for garnish
Method
Roast coconut, coriander seeds, cumin, and red chilies until coconut is golden. Cool and grind into a fine paste.
Heat oil in a kadhai, add chopped onions and fry until golden.
Add turmeric, Malwani masala powder, and fry for 2 mins.
Add ground coconut paste, cook until oil separates.
Add cleaned crabs and salt. Stir well.
Add 1½ cups water, cover, and simmer for 10–12 mins until crabs are cooked.
Pro Tips
Do not overcook crabs — they will turn rubbery.
Slightly crack crab claws before cooking to allow masala to seep in.
Serving Suggestion
Serve with plain steamed rice and a wedge of lemon.
